About Galston Gorge
Galston Gorge is the steep, winding section of Galston Road linking Hornsby Heights and Galston in Sydney's north-west. Its tight hairpin bends carry a long-vehicle ban, yet the road is regularly blocked when an overlength truck or caravan attempts the descent and becomes stuck, closing the gorge in both directions, sometimes for hours. It also closes for crashes, landslips after heavy rain, and scheduled night roadworks.
Gorge Open answers one question: is Galston Gorge open right now? It fuses three independent live traffic sources: the official Transport for NSW hazard feed, TomTom probe speeds measured on the gorge road itself, and Google's traffic-aware routing. When the gorge is closed, the usual detour runs via Old Northern Road and New Line Road through Dural and Cherrybrook.
